Location
Edit
Barba's territory is located in the southwest area of the Forbidden Land. To find it, the player should head toward a pair of towers far in the distance. You will pass through a forest with multiple exits, but you should continue moving southwest. Eventually you will emerge onto an open plain, and after a ways, you will find a ruined structure on a mountain side. Barba lies inside.
Once inside, continue down the corridor. You will find a large, open room. Points of interest include the massive pillars, the series of walls, and the large structure on the opposite end of the room, with a door on top that is unreachable. To continue, walk forwards until you are at the edge of a tall wall. Climb down, unless you feel like dropping all the way down and grabbing at the last second, to save time. Once you are on the floor, the fight begins.
Battle
Edit
This Colossus, as the nickname partially suggests, has a humanoid figure. Its name comes from a giant in mythology, called Goliath. In a few ways, Barba resembles the first Colossus, Minotaur, although it features more fur in a slightly grayer shade, and a long beard which Wander must climb to reach the sigils that mark its weak spots. In order to reach the towering creature's beard, you should hide behind a pillar in a room on the far side from the entrance. You can get there by climbing over the walls that have grates on them. Don't take your time, though, as he is fast behind you, destroying what was firm ground a second ago. Once at the other end of the room, hide behind a pillar, and wait for him to put his hand down and stoop to look for you. Quickly run for his beard and jump onto it. Once on, you may have a little trouble getting from his beard to his body, but it won't be too hard. What will be hard is staying on, as he is one of the shakiest colossus in the game. His weakpoints are on his head, and back. His head is easiest to reach, and can be taken out fairly quickly. However, you'll have to climb a ways down his back to reach the next weakpoint. When playing hard mode, there is also a weakpoint on his hand, which is reached the same way as his beard.
Meaning of Name
Edit
Barba is the Latin word for "beard." From this comes the name "Barbas," a key figure in demonology.
Belua Maximus means "Giant Brute."
Belua comes from the Latin root bela, which means "monster" or "brute." It, plus the Greek "Belos," is a transliteration of the Akkadian word Bel, which means "lord." This is used in Semitic languages as the source of Ba'al, the name of many gods. Belus was said to be the grandson of Heracles or son of Poseidon, and the name has appeared in many mythologies in antiquity, including Egyptian, Assyrian, and Babylonian.
Maximus is the superlative form of Latin magnus, meaning great or large. Maximus generally relates to size but can also connote greatness, such as the Circus Maximus or "greatest circus", a venue once located in Rome.
